Seen and Loved :: around the blogs

24 February 2011

Hello! Sorry I've been so quiet this week. I've got lots going on. Haven't we all?! Here's a few lovely things I saw and loved when I had a quick dash around some fav blogs.

Look at the fabulous colour pallet in these beautiful vases. Found via Poppytalk.

A great interview with Scott Schuman and Garance Doré. They are so perfect together!

I added this fabulous poster to my wishlist - I can't remember where I saw it first though.

Did you know that interior design superstar Kelly Wearstler has a new blog?

A wee peek into the sweet Little Jane St shop.

I know I'll always find beautiful photos on Fryd + Design. Have you visited?

Check out this super cool clip of 60's model Peggy Moffitt featuring amazing fashion, hair & make up and groovin'. Via Modish.

Lovely 'Faux French' tea towels at Thea and Sami.

Super talented Pia Jane Bijkerk has just launched her new website. Her work is SO gorgeous!

I hope you enjoyed seeing these things and that you follow some of the links. If you've spotted anything that you think I might like leave a link and I'll click on through.

Ribbons Galore

23 February 2011

During the fundraisers for Queensland I was lucky to win a $100 gift voucher at Ribbons Galore. I have to say I was like the proverbial kid in a candy store when I went online shopping there... there is sooo much gorgeous ribbon to choose from. Have a look at my haul!

I have no idea yet what I'll use most of it for, but I chose some of the ribbon with this in mind: I have a fab and super comfortable pair of Jeffery Campbell wedges and I thought I'd try changing them up a touch. What do you think? Like them? Or are they a bit much?

(The spotty ribbon is from Spotlight. All others are from Ribbons Galore.)

Inspiration :: Karen Barbé

17 February 2011

Have you seen Chilean textile designer Karen Barbé's lovely work? Her graphic designs are screen printed onto organic cotton 'tiles' in yummy hues like wasabi, lemon zest, taupe, cornflower blue and sand.

And Karen's blog is a visual delight. Her beautifully styled photos showcase all her crafty endeavours like weaving, embroidery, macrame, and cross stitch. I'm so inspired when I read her blog because Karen obviously lives and breathes her love of textile art.

You can buy Karen's fabric tiles, cushions, quilts and woven scarves in her shop.

A Beautiful Wedding

15 February 2011

A few weeks ago my close friend Trenna married her lovely partner Craig. The bride wore red and looked absolutely stunning, as you can see. It was the perfect day, just before the heatwave, for a wedding on an island in Sydney harbour.

All the gorgeous photos above were taken by Society Photography.
(click on the photos to see them larger)

I was personally responsible for making almost half of the 250 paper blossoms hanging at the reception venue! I'd been making them for weeks prior to the big day and I'll be happy not to do any more for quite some time!

Roxy was thrilled to be a flower girl (that's her with the black hair) and to wear sparkly sandals with kitten heals!
2 photos above by me.

It was such a wonderful day and it was so lovely to be a part of a celebration that joined two gorgeous people in marriage.

Seen and loved :: Stamp rugs

10 February 2011

Often when I'm reading comments I'll click through to check out the commenter's blog. When I followed the link to Barb's blog the other day I found these fantastic rugs which are based on iconic Royal Mail stamps. Stamp Rugs produce these beauties in Nepal from New Zealand wool. Seeing them made me wonder why anyone hasn't thought of this before. I love the simple graphic nature and the strong colour palette. And the scalloped edges... swoon!

A new product range for the red thread?

08 February 2011

I'm so excited to have finally had some of my designs laser cut from timber. I've been wanting to do it for the longest time. When I was pondering what wedding gift to give to the couple who has everything I decided to create a monogram of their initials and have it cut out of timber.

The monogram measures 62 cm (2 feet) wide - so it's something substantial and sculptural that the newlyweds can hang on their wall or stand on a shelf.

While I was at it I modified some elements from my existing fabric designs and voila! The smaller birds and flowers will be brooches and I'll create a mobile with the large birds.

I love my deer the most - he's about 36 cm (14 inches) tall and I think he'd make a lovely decoration in a nursery... or in my office!

What do you think? Last year I was aiming to reduce the number of different products I sell and focus on my fabric design and sewing patterns and kits... and now I'm not so sure. Of course now my head is exploding with all the new products I want to make!

Edit: Thanks for your comments and lots of emails. OK, I'll do it! It will be a few weeks before I have stock made... there'll be a deer and a fox (anonymous I have a page of fox sketches I've been working on already!), and perhaps one more critter. If you have any requests let me know and I'll see what I come up with. But I'm over owls, so please don't ask ;)
