My Home on The Design Files

06 July 2011

About a month ago I spent a lovely day with super sweet Lucy of The Design Files. Lucy was here to photograph my house and I'm excited to tell you that you can now see the photos of my somewhat eclectic decorating style here on Lucy's awesome blog. (when you click on that link be sure to scroll up because it seems to take you to the centre of the post) Hilariously Lucy makes a few references to the number of cushions I have... if you're a regular visitor here you'll know that it's no secret: I'm into cushions.

Thanks Lucy!

Smalltown

05 July 2011

In the '70s my mum was a bit crazy for macrame. I think she attended a class or two and next thing we knew we had macrame pot plant hangers, macrame jewellery and other assorted craftiness in our home. Mum was really into it. So it's with a great sense of nostalgia that I put together this post about Smalltown.

Melbourne-based Sarah creates stunning macrame planters, lights and commissioned installations. They feel really fresh and contemporary -  I particularly love the way they puddle on the floor - and they have made me rethink macrame. Would I dare to make myself some lovely white hanging planters? Yes. I think I would. Do you love them too?

Loving :: Case Mate

04 July 2011

How cool is this.... create a custom case for your iPhone, iPod, iPad or Blackberry with your own design or use the fantastic design tools to "remix" the work of artists and designers at Case Mate.

My Mimi Sweetie Petite makes a cute case!
The case on the right was made using the art available to 'remix'.

On the left is one I made while mucking around with the Yo Gabba Gabba art.
Pop art on the right.

This screen shot shows the various tools available when 'remixing'. You start with a blank canvas and build up layers and colours. In the middle row are graphics that you use like stamps, including in this case some lovely watercolour splashes.
The case on the left is a version of the one in the screen shot above - I used the kaleidoscope tool to change it. For the case on the right I just changed the background colour.

I've spent so much time mucking around at Case Mate, it's a lot of fun and you can create amazing designs. And even better, the cases actually cost less than a lot of the boring ones available in shops. I'm hanging out to get the iPhone 5 when it's released (hopefully in a few months), so I don't want to get a new case for my 3 in the meantime. That gives me heaps of time to keep playing at Case Mate. Be warned, "I Make My Case" is a time sucker!

My Bearded Pigeon

A few weeks ago I bought some friends a wedding gift voucher for some My Bearded Pigeon cushions. The only problem is that they can't make a decision... would you make a choice based on your home city or country, places you've visited, destinations you dream of, or the colour and design of the maps?

All images: My Bearded Pigeon

The fun and vibrant vintage maps are printed on organic cotton by Cath Young in northern NSW.  She's had some great press coverage lately including the front cover of Real Living - check out My Bearded Pigeon's Etsy shop and you'll see what all the fuss is about and why my friends are struggling to choose.
