origami obsession

29 July 2010

Roxy's latest creative obsession is origami... more specifically origami fish. She made so many the other weekend that I decided to create an artwork installation in our hallway.

It turned out really well don't you think?

hello!

Hello lovelies! How are you? Gosh, it's been over a month since I've posted, my little blogiday was somewhat protracted wasn't it. I've missed you and missed being here at my blog, but I'm back now, and will be posting regularly again.

It's a wee bit nippy here and we're all battling colds in our house, but It's lovely snuggling weather. Here's a bit of a glimpse of what's been happening at chez red thread.

I finally, finally learnt to crochet! Can you believe it?! After wanting to master this craft for so long I can now confidently say "I can crochet".  I took a class a few weeks ago with Sarah London and now there's no stopping me.

I've been making lots of yummy soup and I recovered our dining chairs (the photo above shows the new look chairs and the link is to their previous incarnation).

This tomato soup is so delicious and so easy.... I just made it up as I went along and I'm not shy to say that it's one of the best I've tasted. Sometimes simple is best.
Here's what you do:
Cut a whole heap of Roma tomatoes (I think I used a couple of dozen) in half and arrange them cut side up on baking trays.
Drizzle lightly with olive oil and sprinkle a small amount crushed garlic over the top.
Slow roast the tomatoes for about 3 hours on a low temperature. They're cooked when they are softened and slightly browned.
Put them in a saucepan and cover with vege or chicken stock and bring to the boil.
Whiz it up in the blender, making sure that it remains slightly chunky.
Serve with a dollop of Greek yoghurt and freshly chopped basil leaves.
mmmmm.....

Lots of reorganising at home, including sorting out shelves.

And here's a sneak peek into my pantry. To my surprise I found Roxy there the other day, playing games on my iPhone in the dark. I recently changed the passcode on my phone so I'd have some control over when she uses it... but she figured out that if she can get hold of it after I've made a call it will be unlocked. And if she hides in the pantry she'll have more game time before I tell her to stop. Bonus points for smarts!

I hope you're still out there and the silence hasn't driven you away. See you tomorrow!

xx

a blogiday

22 June 2010

Is blogiday the right term for a blog holiday? Cos that's what I've decided I need. As you've probably noticed my heart's not been in it for the past few weeks. So I've decided to take a blogiday to focus on other stuff that needs my attention, like, for example... me.

I'll be back soonish, not sure when. Hopefully in a couple of weeks, but if you subscribe or put the red thread in your reader you'll know when I'm back hanging out here again.

In the meantime why don't you leave a comment on this post with a link to a favourite blog that you think I, and my lovely readers, may like. Not your own blog (although your name/id should link to that!), but someone who inspires and delights you through their blog. I'll look forward to visiting your recommendations.

Take care,

Lisa

Etsy Craft Party :: Sydney

17 June 2010

It's Etsy's birthday tomorrow and people all over the world are organising Craft Parties. The irrepressible Corrie (aka Retro Mummy) has taken on the task of organising a Sydney event for tomorrow night.

The Sydney Craft Party will be held at Notebook magazine's cool new photo studios at Alexandria from 6.30 to 9.30pm tomorrow night, Friday 18th June. There is a cover charge of $20, which includes venue hire and security, a glass of champagne, tea and coffee and a Notebook goodie bag(!). Bring a plate to share, and your craft of course. You can BYO craft or bring along fabric scraps to make hexagons and yo yos, as well as scissors, needle and thread, pins etc.

It's going to be fun. Please join us if you can. It's a great way to connect and bring to [real]life this amazing online community we have.

Tickets must be pre-purchased and are available here.

Yay!

Mandala love

Over a year ago I wrote a post about terrariums and featured a photographic mandala by Etsy seller Playnature Productions called Terrarium mold makes the world go round.

I have been thinking about finally getting around to making a terrarium (a year later!), and it prompted me to revisit my post and then to take another look at Playnature, and this is what I found...

This mandala is from a photo of a flower. Breathtaking.
