Not the weekend I had planned

31 May 2010

After a trip to the hospital in the ambulance on Friday night, overnight in emergency and 2 days in the children's ward Roxy and I are back home. My poor sweetpea had a bad asthma attack and is still recovering from it. I'm also trying to recover from the stress and almost complete lack of sleep.

It might be a little quite around here this week, but I'll be back soon. I hope you had a lovely weekend.

colour me happy

28 May 2010

Are you adventurous with colour? I have to say that generally I'm not. In my clothes or my interiors. I definitely like splashes of colour but I think I'm too fickle with it to be able to commit to anything on a large scale. I worry that I may regret my choice too soon. When I see interiors like this though I feel inspired to let loose a bit.

While I love the images above and aspire to live like that sometimes, I adore shot below. It makes my heart sing. This is more my speed... for now at least. I love the way the artwork just 'pops' out of it's environment. It's like a hidden jewel of a secret waiting to be uncovered.

the weather

27 May 2010

cold.
wet.
miserable.

We're all under the weather here at the moment with bad colds.

But something brightened my day today... I received an email saying that I have been accepted into Finders Keepers market in Brisbane. Woohoo, I can't wait.

I spent the day cutting out Hello Birdy Pillows for Handmade next weekend. Next on the list are Ooshkas. I wonder if I could be organised enough to make enough stock for both markets in one go.... wishful thinking perhaps. I'm having lots of fun choosing fabrics from my stash. Isn't that the best part?! Oh yeah, except for buying fabric. Now that's fun. And ripping open the parcel of fabric as soon as you close the door on the postie. I love that bit too.

I can't wait to show you my reorganised and relocated fabric stash which I managed to do last weekend. Now that it's in a cabinet with a glass door I can't stop looking at it. The weather has been so crappy that the light isn't good enough to shoot. I also want to show you some lovely things i received in the mail recently. Hopefully it will brighten up on the weekend.

New items in my shop and a discount for you

26 May 2010

Today has been windy and cold and pouring with rain... pretty miserable really. But great weather to be inside listening to nice music, drinking herbal tea and working hard. Which is exactly what I've done. I've spent the whole day being very productive updating my website and my shop. At last, hooray! It feels great great to get on top of really big jobs like that.

Here's my new shop banner... after seeing Roxy as a tot, here's a recent shot of her playing with her Sweetie collection.

Great news for me that it's done, and good news for you too. As a very much appreciated reader of the red thread blog you can get a 15% discount off anything in my shop (not the website, just the shop) for the next week. All you have to do is put in the code MAYBLOG at checkout.

The Ooshka and Hello Birdy sewing patterns are now in the shop. The not so good news... after doing an inventory for the shop update I have realised that I have pretty much sold out of the Cuddle Bundle (sometimes known as Sweetie Beans because I still haven't made a decisive decision on the name!) panels. Eeeek, sorry! I'll be having more printed soon and I will be selling the Cuddle Bundles softies at Handmade in Canberra next weekend.

Inspiration :: Sarah London :: Crochet

25 May 2010

By now you must know I'm desperate to learn to crochet, and more importantly I'm desperate to love doing it. My one attempt at granny squares last year left me somewhat ambivalent, but I see so many wonderful crocheted things that I really want to join the cool hooking crowd. So I'm very much looking forward to being part of crochet queen Sarah London's class in the Craft Room series.

Sarah creates all sorts of loveliness and you can buy her patterns and even the yarn to make them.

all images: Sarah London

Sarah's blog is so inspiring and she often features the work of some amazing artists/crafters. Like these awesome giant felted granny square rugs by Dana Barnes.

And chunky felted wool urchin poufs by Christien Meindertsma.

Oh how much would I love to make a stool cover like the one below! So gorgeous.

This one isn't from Sarah's blog, but it seems fitting to share it in this post. How awesome is this handmade mega doily rug?! It's from Etsy seller Ladies and Gentlemen, found via Finders Keepers.

So much crochet love in one post. Do you hook? Do you have any favourite sites or blogs to share? Please do tell.
