Friday again?... Happy Weekend!

07 August 2009

Oh, how did it get to be Friday afternoon all of a sudden? And the weekend again?

I finally got a sec to sit down with a cup of green tea today and open my copy of Inside Out which arrived on Wednesday. The magazine has a lovely new look - some torn edges, a bit of a collage feel in some places and generally a more accessible vibe I think. It seems warmer and friendlier somehow. Not that it was unfriendly before, but it's softened somewhat. Nice! The first images are of my two favourite pages from the magazine, the next is an article on talented Beci Orpin, and the last set of images are from a feature on the funky home of Natalie from Arthur's Circus.

Another lovely arrival by post were the two gorgeous ceramic cloud brooches I ordered from the sale the lovely Kylie is having at Paper Boat Press. They are the sweetest little things - I just love them.

And lastly, my cards came back from the printer today and I'm really happy with the way they turned out. (it's not a great photo though I'm sorry) I'll be packing them in sets of 4 to sell.

So that wraps up another week. It felt like this:

Photos taken by Roxy at Disney on Ice last month.

Have a lovely weekend, whether it's busy or quiet I hope it's a good one. See you Monday, although I can't promise an improvement on my recent erratic posting... we'll see how the week unfolds. Oh the busy-ness!

xx

This time last year

06 August 2009

I must apologise for my erratic posting this week - I've got too much on my plate to keep up. I mentioned in my blogiversary post last week that I might link back to some favourite posts of a year ago, so here's a few to get started.

The images above are some quick shots I took of shadows falling on different objects. I love shadows and hope that by sharing these images you might take a minute to look at, and find joy in, some little detail in your day. You can see the whole post here.

These cups are part of a beautiful Shelley dinner set that belonged to my great grandmother. The tree design is so lovely isn't it? I just love the graphic black and white shapes with the tiny flashes of colour. Perfection. There's no point in me linking to the original post, because that's all folks for this one.

This photo was a happy accident that happened when I pressed the shutter release of my camera before I'd lined up the shot. It's part of the cover of a 1930's edition of Pinocchio.

Gathering Speed :: part 3

05 August 2009

This week I have made a lot of progress with my embroidery/applique/patchwork panels which I'll be selling at the show (and later online). I've made all my screens and have started to print some designs. Here's a sneak peek.

They are printed on cotton, or linen/cotton blend fabric. I'm sticking with a neutral colour palette for the fabric and I love the texture of the linen/cotton. Some of the designs will be printed in olive and aqua, but again I want to keep the colour range quite limited. I'm really happy with how they're turning out and I'm excited about printing the remaining designs. There's a vintage style girl and some cute little illustrations.

With perfect timing we are doing embroidery at Brown Owls tonight, so I'll be working on some of these.

Gathering Speed :: part 2

The dolls house (or as Roxy refers to it: 'our dolls house'. "It's a share one, isn't it mum?!") is pretty much finished. All I have to do is make some flowers for the window boxes. I'll use it as a display stand at the show.

I had fun using my Japanese washi paper tape for decoration. The tape made defining the window frames a breeze, and I made a floor rug out of it too. You can probably tell that I had a lot of fun doing this.

Gathering Speed :: part 1

I told you that I'm in my element with a deadline, right? I've been going at full speed and things are getting done in preparation for The Stitches and Craft Show, which is only 2 weeks away. I'll show you this week's progress in 3 parts.

Firstly, very exciting news... I got my fabric back from Spoonflower and the colour is (mostly) fantastic. I'm so relieved. There are a few colours that I'll tweak for future printing, but nothing major. Woohoo!

Now I just have to cut the panels out. The plastic bags are ready to collect, the stuffing is on its way, and the packaging card thingy (to staple to the top of the bag) and instructions are at the printer.

Exhale....
