Need a Good Laugh?

13 March 2009

This is silly and hilarious and had me laughing out loud for the longest time. I became quite hysterical in fact. Which is just what a girl needs to do from time to time.

Here's what you do:
Just google 'unfortunately, [insert your name]'. When I googled 'unfortunately, Lisa' I got this:

unfortunately, lisa fell off the wagon and began using drugs

unfortunately, lisa doesn't have a good side yet

Unfortunately Lisa is struggling with weakness in her legs and staff at the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Salisbury are desperate to find her a loving home

Unfortunately Lisa had no children with former husbands Michael Jackson and Nicholas Cage

unfortunately Lisa gives no answers but promises to see him

unfortunately, Lisa’s depression continued

Unfortunately, Lisa is shot and she dies in MacGyver's arms

Not Your Average Nesting Dolls

12 March 2009

I'm love love loving these absolutely stunning and imaginative nesting dolls.

By Abigail Brown. Too adorable. Visit Abigail's beautiful website here.

And the gorgeous ones below are by Trish Grantham. You can buy them at Trish's etsy shop.

Yet one more thing to add to my one-day-when-I-have-some-spare-time-I'd-like-to-try-this list.

And for something with a completely different look: bit, byte, kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte and terabyte nesting dolls, from Art Lebedev Studio.

Brown Owls Meeting

On Thursday night we had our first Brown Owls meeting. I blogged about the Owls and my preparation for the meeting here.

10 of us made it on the night and we had a wonderful time being creative, laughing, snacking and chatting about everything from crafting (of course) to travel, shops and supplies, home life, and wedding dresses (we had a bride-to-be in our group).

Bell and Amy made more than 20 'restash a crafter' kits for the victims of the Victorian bushfires and Jess brought homemade cakes to share. We all got crafting with owl craft kits or with our own projects. And we made lots of plans for future get togethers.

I think the thing that I was most looking forward to was the sense of sharing and community, and I wasn't disappointed. There's something wonderful and restorative about sharing time and energy with a wonderful group of like-minded women. Yay for the Brown Owls!

Inspiration: Resurrection Fern

11 March 2009

I've been a fan of the divine work of Margaret at Resurrection Fern for some time, but now I have a serious creative crush.

Margaret has set up a breathtaking art installation at a secret location. She has placed her crochet pieces and covered stones in a forest and intends to document the symbiosis of nature and fiber art over time.

Visit the Resurrection Fern blog for more.

You can buy photos of the beautiful crochet covered stones at the Resurrection Fern etsy shop - and if you're in the right place at the right time you might even be able to snag an actual covered stone.

Etsy Discovery: Darren Song

When looking at Aussie sellers on etsy I found this work by Singapore born Darren Song. Darren studied design at Swinbourne in Melbourne, works as a designer and sells these amazing hand sewn works from his etsy shop.

I am really liking Ollie The Red Panda which is completely hand stitched from red thread. I just love the detail in the stitching. Darren will make customised pieces using different colour thread and different animals. You can choose to have the wax seal or not. So I'm thinking: Red Panda with no seal in a white frame.
